Frequently Asked Questions http://stageloft.com/frequently-asked-questions/ http://stageloft.com/frequently-asked-questions/#comments Sun, 21 Feb 2016 07:55:19 +0000 http://stageloft.com/?p=2271

We’ve put together a starter list of some the most frequently asked questions from Stageloft’s patrons, many of which involve ticket-buying options. We’ll add to the file as time goes on to help preemptively answer your most common queries.

What are your basic ticket-buying options?

There are a couple of ways to secure tickets to our shows. The most efficient option is to purchase your Stageloft tickets securely online through the TicketStage service. A prominent link to TicketStage is posted on each of our show pages. The service offers a live representation of the theater’s seating layout and allows patrons to choose the seats of their choice (if they’re still available). Color codes let you know which seats are sold or still available. Please be aware that all sales are final.

For those uncomfortable with online purchases, we can handle the seating and payment details over the phone by calling us at 508-347-9005. We’ll call you back as soon as possible, although we do not return calls on Mondays. Our box office is open one hour before each listed performance. Note: The box office has reopened after being closed through Jan. 4.

Please note that we no longer accept reservations via email; please call us at the number above instead.

Does Stageloft sell season tickets?

We offer not one, but two season-ticket options! The standard 2016 Season Ticket offers admission to each of this year’s nine productions at a 10 percent savings over regular ticket prices. Prices are $145 per person for General Admission and $130 per person for Senior Admission (ages 60 and older). Please note that these full-season tickets must be purchased by March 20, 2016.

Stageloft’s second option is our Triple Play Pass, which entitles you to see three 2016 shows of your choice — and can be purchased multiple times throughout the season. General Admission passes are $49 per person (a 5 percent savings) and $45 for Senior Admission.

Note: Please click here to access our Season Tickets form as a PDF. Download the form and return to Stageloft with your payment to the address given on the form.

Do you offer group discounts?

Stageloft has happily catered to group visits since its inception in 1994. For our 2016 season, tickets purchased in groups of 10 or more are priced at $15 per ticket. Tickets for groups of 20-plus are also $15 apiece through pre-payment — and include a free ticket for your group leader.

Do you offer discounted tickets for certain ages?

We’ve always offered discounts for teen-aged students and senior citizens, For our 2016 season, it remains $16 per ticket (versus $18 for an adult ticket) for our regular productions. We also continue to price tickets for youths ages 12 and under at $10. Please note that the senior discount applies to those ages 60 or older.

For our two annual Youth Theater productions, tickets are $15 for adults and $10 apiece for youth and seniors.

Do you offer military discounts?

We are proud to offer $16 tickets to all members of our armed forces, whether active military or retired. We salute you for your service!

Does Stageloft offer gift certificates?

Yes, we do have gift certificates available in any denomination of your choosing. For shopping in person, you’ll always find the theater box office open one hour before every performance. We can also handle gift certificate purchases over the phone (we’ll need to get your credit card information to charge the purchase). The gift certificate can either be mailed to you or to your intended recipient. If you choose to call the theater to arrange a purchase, please do not leave your credit card information on the voice mail system. We will return your call to get all the details.

I’m planning to visit Stageloft from outside the area. Do you have driving directions?

Yes, we do. Just click this link to go to our Directions page. You’ll find the same link in the Contact area of our website.

Do you take donations of clothing and accessories for use as costumes?

Yes. Stageloft is always looking for that special man’s suit (large sizes preferably), woman’s dress, or hats, jewelry, shoes, etc., to complement our wardrobe. If you are considering discarding such items, please consider donating them. It might be fun to see a piece of your clothing on stage!

Do you accept donations of furniture, small appliances, framed pictures and other household items as possible props?

We are always on the lookout for those kinds of props — especially vintage items that help give our sets a look that matches the era being brought back to life in our productions. Please call us to double-check if the item is needed, especially if it’s bulky.

I’m not an actor, but I’d like to volunteer at Stageloft. Is that possible?

Of course! Volunteers are the lifeblood of any good theater, and we always need and welcome anyone who wants to lend a helping hand before and during performances. If you or someone you know would like to help, we’re aways looking to add to our roster of stage managers, costumers, prop managers, ushers, set-builders, and theater techs (sound and lights), and others.

The auditions will take place at Stageloft’s home at 420A Main St., Sturbridge.

The audition schedule is as follows:

4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20
4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21
4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23

No appointment is needed for the auditions, which are open to youths in Grade 1 and above. Stageloft co-founder and former artistic director Ed Cornely will direct the show.

The play will be performed on the weekend of April 29.

Youngsters who wish to audition should be ready to perform a cold reading from the script, which will be provided. Play rehearsals will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Here’s a quick synopsis of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which is based on Roald Dahl’s most popular novel:

Young Charlie Bucket can’t believe his luck when he finds the very last of Mr. Willy Wonka’s Golden Tickets inside his chocolate bar. He wins the trip of a lifetime, a magical tour around Mr. Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory.

Once inside, Charlie and the other four winners — Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde and Mike Teavee – -witness amazing wonders: rainbow drops, lickable wallpaper, and even a chocolate waterfall. But what happens when the children, one by one, disobey Mr. Wonka?

Those with questions about the auditions or scheduling conflicts can send email messages to stageloftrep@gmail.com.

We’ll update this post with more information (including the show schedule) as it becomes available.

‘Spamalot’ auditions slated for Feb. 15 and 16 http://stageloft.com/spamalot-auditions-slated-for-feb-15-and-16/ http://stageloft.com/spamalot-auditions-slated-for-feb-15-and-16/#comments Wed, 10 Feb 2016 17:53:03 +0000 http://stageloft.com/?p=2519 Stageloft Repertory Theater announces auditions for its June 2016 production of “Spamalot” by Eric Idle and John DuPrez.

No appointments are necessary for the auditions, which are being held at Stageloft’s home at 450A Main Street, Sturbridge.

The audition schedule is as follows:

Monday, Feb. 15 — 7 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 16 — 7 p.m.

“Spamalot” is being directed by Kevin McGerigle, with Leah Marley as music director and Jackie Johnson handling choreography. The show will run from June 3 to June 26, with Friday and Saturday performances at 8 p.m.; and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Their are roles available for more than 15 men and seven women, and all are open. Auditions will consist of a brief movement audition. Choreography will be taught first at 7 p.m., followed by cold readings from the script (which will be provided at the audition) and individual singing.

Singers are asked to prepare 16 to 32 measures of a song they feel showcases them well vocally. If singing a selection from the “Spamalot” score, no sheet music is necessary. If singing something from outside the show, please bring the sheet music for your audition song in the appropriate key. We are unable to provide transposition.

Roles are as follows, with age ranges in parentheses:

King Arthur (age late 30s to 60s): The King of England who sets out on a quest to form the Knights of the Round Table and find the Holy Grail. Great Humor. Good singer.

Sir Robin (age 30s to 40s): A Knight of the Round Table. Ironically called “Sir Robin the Brave,” though he couldn’t be more cowardly. Joins the Knights for the singing and dancing. Also plays Guard 1 and Brother Maynard, a long-winded monk.

Sir Lancelot (age 30s to 40s): A Knight of the Round Table. He is fearless to a bloody fault but through a twist of fate, discovers his “softer side.” This actor MUST be great with character voices and accents, as he also plays The French Taunter, an arrogant, condescending, over-the-top Frenchman; the Knight of Ni, an absurd, cartoonish leader of a peculiar group of Knights; and Tim the Enchanter, a ghostly being with a Scottish accent.

Patsy (age 30s to 40s): King Arthur’s horse and servant. Under-appreciated but always longing for King Arthur’s approval. Good, funny, physical mover with some tap dancing. Also plays Mayor, a jolly red-faced man who advertises the merits of his home town and the drunken, useless Guard 2.

Sir Galahad (age in 30s): A Knight of the Round Table. Begins as Dennis, a lower-class “mud gatherer” who becomes knighted and transforms into the dashing Sir Galahad. Also plays Prince Herbert’s Father, a wealthy, brutish Yorkshireman man at odds with his sensitive son, The Black Knight, who is always ready to duel despite multiple injuries. Strong bari-tenor singing required.

Sir Bedevere (age 20s to 40s): A Knight of the Round Table. An inept scholar. Also plays Dennis Galahad’s Mother, a shrill peasant woman, and Concorde, Sir Lancelot’s horse. No solo singing.

The Lady of the Lake (age 20s to 30s): A diva. Strong, beautiful, and possesses mystical powers. The leading lady of the show. Great singing voice is essential, as she must be able to sing effortlessly in many styles and vocal registers.

The Following roles will be played by the same actor. Tenor singing required. Very good mover:

Historian: A tweedy academic.
Not Dead Fred: A sickly little fellow who, despite others’ beliefs, claims he is “not yet dead.”
French Guard: The condemnatory French sidekick to the French Taunter.
Minstrel: In Sir Robin’s band.
Prince Herbert: The hopeful and frilly prince who loves to sing and pines for his love atop a tower.

Ensemble: Six men and six women.

We hope to see you at the auditions! Please call us at 508-347-9005 if you have questions or a scheduling conflict.

Interior work shutters Stageloft http://stageloft.com/interior-work-shutters-stageloft/ http://stageloft.com/interior-work-shutters-stageloft/#comments Mon, 21 Dec 2015 07:48:28 +0000 http://stageloft.com/?p=2284 Stageloft will be closing its doors for the coming weeks to upgrade its interior.

With no shows scheduled for January, Stageloft Repertory Theater will be shuttered as we undergo some interior reconstruction and upgrades.

However, the weeks-long closure will not prevent patrons from ordering tickets to our 2016 shows online through the TicketStage service, nor those who prefer to perform their ticket transactions by phone, at 508-347-9005.

Led by theater owners Christine and Scott Taylor, the reconstruction will result in better sight lines for all patrons, and will make the building of new sets — and the arduous-but-inevitable reconfiguration of wall partitions — more efficient.

Improving the logistics of the backstage area will benefit actors and others who work behind the scenes. Also, new paint schemes throughout the theater will add to a more welcoming atmosphere.

Unfortunately, the construction meant there was no New Year’s Eve variety shows on Dec. 31, a Vaudevillian Stageloft tradition in which all proceeds are donated to local food pantries and/or shelters.

Patrons were able to get a first look at the improvements when Stageloft hosted a free screening of the documentary “Muse of Fire” on Jan. 24. The film, which solicits input from some of the world’s best-known actors on Shakespeare, includes a scene with Stageloft co-founder Ed Cornely filmed right here in Sturbridge.

The first stage production to take advantage of the refreshed interior will be the Stageloft Youth Theater staging of “Disney’s Little Mermaid Jr.” from Feb. 12 to Feb. 21.

Our first regular production of the year is the comical farce “Boeing, Boeing,” which runs from March 4 to March 20.

We hope you’ll benefit from our hard work in the coming month.

Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.” Adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture featuring the enormously popular Academy Award-winning music and delightfully charming book and lyrics, it’s based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories.

The show offers an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance. In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home — and her fins — behind and live in the world above. But first she’ll have to defy her father King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking.

“Winnie the Pooh” is Christopher Robin’s fat little “bear of very little brain” who would like to drift peacefully through life, humming tunes and stopping frequently to eat “a little something.”

However, he finds himself involved in all sorts of frantic adventures, assisted by such friends as the dismal Eeyore, Piglet and Rabbit, with his countless relations. Pooh’s intentions are always the best, but his passion for honey and condensed milk keeps getting him into trouble.

When friend Piglet gets roped into Kanga’s household and Kanga starts bathing him (with soap!) and forcing down spoonfuls of Strengthening Medicine, Pooh wants to fly to the rescue, but he’s had so many snacks he gets stuck in the door.

Famed playwright A.A. Milne’s wit and special understanding of young people make this a special presentation for youths and kids-at-heart.

This 1960s French farce adapted for the English-speaking stage features a self-styled Parisian Lothario named Bernard, who has somehow accrued Italian, German and American fiancees named Gabriella, Gretchen and Gloria, respectively — each of whom is a beautiful airline hostess with frequent “layovers” in the City of Light.

This production includes mature subject matter and is suitable only for those ages 16 and older.

He keeps “one up, one down and one pending” until unexpected schedule changes bring all three to Paris and Bernard’s apartment at the same time. To make matters worse, Bernard’s introverted American pal, Robert, is forgetting which fibs to tell to whom, and Bernard’s housekeeper, Berthe, is caught in the middle of the mix. Comical catastrophe looms on the runway.

‘Boeing, Boeing,’ which has been mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records as the planet’s most-performed French play, was first staged in 1962, in London.

Grab tickets now to this comedic farce and be there for lift-off!
