‘I Love You, You’re Perfect …’ hits reviewer in the heart

The cast members of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” offer a well-timed hand.

It appears that Telegram & Gazette reviewer Paul Kolas has struck up a beautiful relationship with Stageloft Repertory Theater’s latest offering: The “perky production” of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” earned three (out of four) stars during his Valentine’s Day screening.

The series of romance-related musical vignettes and video pieces are recounted in fine detail in the T&G write-up, with Kolas almost entirely impressed by Director Elizabeth Havenor’s winning pastiche.

In fact, all six members of the cast — Todd Darling, Chelsey O’Connor, David Hook, Katie Speed, Nate Leonard and Kathrine Waters — come in for praise, as does Musical Director/pianist Kallin Johnson, chroegrapher David Ross and violinist Angel Hernandez.

The use of a movie screen in the backdrop is put to good use in ways both comical and profound, as are the voice talents of the talented live actors.

A longtime February favorite, A.R. Gurney’s “Love Letters” was a Stageloft Repertory Theater staple for Valentine’s Day going back to its inaugural season in 1994. In 2001, the emotionally moving look at the love between a man and a woman featured three sets of actors during its four-day run: Mary Dennis and Gary Galonek; Gwen Callahan and John McGonigle — and the “celebrity” duo of Jeannie Herbert (of Hebert’s Candies) and Worcester radio personality Frank Foley.
