No appointment is needed for the auditions, which are open to youths in Grade 1 and above. Stageloft co-founder and former artistic director Ed Cornely will direct the show.

The play will be performed on the weekend of April 29.

Youngsters who wish to audition should be ready to perform a cold reading from the script, which will be provided. Play rehearsals will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Here’s a quick synopsis of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which is based on Roald Dahl’s most popular novel:

Young Charlie Bucket can’t believe his luck when he finds the very last of Mr. Willy Wonka’s Golden Tickets inside his chocolate bar. He wins the trip of a lifetime, a magical tour around Mr. Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory.

Once inside, Charlie and the other four winners — Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde and Mike Teavee – -witness amazing wonders: rainbow drops, lickable wallpaper, and even a chocolate waterfall. But what happens when the children, one by one, disobey Mr. Wonka?
